Rant: dropped $140 on a balloon ride over the Rio Grande and the wind said nope
I know everyone here loves telling visitors to book the sunrise balloon rides, but I have to push back after what happened to me two Saturdays ago. Me and my wife booked a shared basket out of the north valley and it cost us $140 each, plus fees and a tip for the chase crew. We got up at 4:30 in the morning, drove out there, and stood around for almost two hours while they kept saying the winds were borderline. Right when we're about to load up, they call the whole thing off for safety and tell us we can rebook or get a partial refund minus a service charge. I get that weather is weather, but nobody warned us that a spring morning here is basically a coin flip. For that kind of cash I'd rather just watch them from the ground at Balloon Fiesta with a breakfast burrito in hand. Has anyone actually gotten a refund out of one of these companies, or did you all just eat the fee like we did?

Did they tell you at booking that spring mornings get called off all the time? We booked a flight in April and got lucky, but our pilot flat out said it's about a 50/50 shot that time of year. Sounds like you just got a bad draw on the weather and a company that won't own up to it.
