Last Saturday was my worst shift in 8 years...
Everything that could go wrong did - three code blues back to back, a patient's family screaming at the front desk, and the coffee machine broke at 2 AM. What made it stand out was the charge nurse just disappeared for an hour to 'take a break' and left us drowning. Has anyone else had a night when management totally bailed on you?

That "charge nurse disappeared for an hour" part really hits hard. Having someone in charge just bail like that on the worst night possible makes everything feel ten times worse. It's rough enough dealing with back to back codes without feeling like you're on your own.

Man, @williams.kim that's so true, being totally abandoned like that just makes a horrible night feel way worse.

Yeah absolutely. Being the only one holding it together while the person who's supposed to be leading just dips out is a whole different level of stress. You start second guessing everything because there's no backup, no one to confirm you're doing the right thing. And the worst part is when they finally come back and act like nothing happened, like you weren't drowning for the last hour.
