I thought I knew Central Ave until a guy at the diner on 4th St told me I had it all wrong
For years I swore the best green chile in town was at a spot off Coors, and I'd argue with anyone about it. Then last month a regular at the Frontier on Central asked me if I'd ever tried the little place near Old Town on Rio Grande, and I had to admit I never had. Went there and now I'm questioning everything I thought I knew about this city's food. So who's actually right here, do the longtime locals stick with the old spots or is it worth chasing the smaller places nobody talks about?
My uncle swore by the chile relleno at a spot on Wyoming for like 15 years, then found out the cook had moved to some tiny place off San Mateo and he acted like he'd been lied to his whole life. Now he won't eat anywhere that has a real sign out front, says if they can afford a sign the food's already gone soft. Half the fun of this town is just wandering around getting proved wrong.
