Appreciation post: Tom at the auto shop on 4th street set me straight
I was at Tom's Auto Repair off 4th last Tuesday dropping off my truck for a weird noise. He told me I didn't need a full engine rebuild, just a new serpentine belt and tensioner. Saved me about $800 and made me realize how many mechanics push big jobs you don't actually need. Anyone else got a local shop they actually trust around here?

...and honestly that's exactly what happened to my buddy Jake last fall. He took his old Civic to some chain shop and they told him he needed a new transmission, quoted him like $2,800. He was ready to just scrap the car. Then someone told him to go see Tom and Tom spent five minutes under the hood, said it was just a clogged filter and sensor issue, charged him $150 and it's been running fine ever since. Ngl I think half the shops in this town just see dollar signs when they hear an engine noise.

Just gotta say it's "serpentine belt" not "serpentine" - one belt with grooves, not snakes. Tom's a solid guy though, I've sent a few friends there and they all came back happy.
